FAQs

  • Hi, I’m J. I’m a medical student with a background in public health and business. Before I started my medical school journey, I was involved in the social entrepreneurship space. My work included founding two organizations dedicated to global health and ethical business practices. I also helped lead a sustainability-focused consulting group, and did a fair bit of public health research.

I later received a full-time offer for what I initially thought would be my “dream job” — doing health policy consulting at a Big 4 firm. The work wasn’t helping people the way I wanted, so I turned down that offer to pursue medicine, and haven’t regretted it since. I’ve continued to mesh my interests in healthcare, public health research, and business throughout medical school. Thanks for letting me share my experiences with y’all through TWHL.

  • there’s plenty of content out there on health and productivity. what I hope to bring to the table is a perspective that:

    • is grounded in evidence

    • is solution-oriented

    • brings together what I’ve learned from business, research, and medicine

    • shares my unique experiences from travel and endurance sports

  • staying active is my happy place. I like running, biking, strength training, and yoga. But TBH, I was never naturally athletic. In fact, I’m clumsy as hell. Don’t let that deter you. Some of the greatest memories I’ve made in life were while running my first marathon and biking across France. If I can do it, anyone can.

I also love reading non-fiction books. Biographies, biology, Buddhist philosophy — you name it. You’ll see lessons from some of my favorite books up on TWHL.

  • While I’m not perfect (and that’s not the goal), this is how I try to live my values every day:

    • buying only what I truly need, prioritizing “secondhand first,” and caring for my things throughout their life cycle

    • supporting vegan food options and being kind to animals

    • being myself and treating others with human dignity

    • minimizing waste by bringing my own reusables and composting

    • following the motto: “do what is right and do it now”

    • enjoying the limited time I have on our planet through big and small adventures
